We Save Moldova bloc has announced it would support leader of the Socialist Party of Moldova Igor Dodon as presidential candidate.
The organization members are retired officers, special forces officers, frontier guards, Afghanistan war veterans, combatants, representatives of “patriotic” parties and NGOs.
At a nationwide founding meeting, representatives from more than 20 districts of the republic unanimously voted for a declaration in Dodon’s support.
“The Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova has the most patriotic action plan. Igor Dodon is a patriot. We will support him not because he is the most handsome man, but because he the only politician in the country who has a strong team and speaks for sovereignty, neutrality and Moldova’s territorial integrity,” leader of the movement Ion Mahu said.
Members of the movement say that in their decision they were guided by the public opinion. Activists of the bloc have had a poll among citizens in several months, and most of the respondents say they would support the candidate from the Socialist Party, they say.
The presidential election is scheduled for October 30.
