Interpol detained in Dubai Adil Toygonbayev, the son-in-law of the first President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev.
Toygonbayev was wanted by both the Kyrgyz authorities and Interpol for a number of crimes.
Toygonbayev is the husband of Akayev’s elder daughter. Before Mar 2005, he controlled a number of mass media and companies in Kyrgyzstan and was among the richest people in that country. When Akayev was ousted, the new regime charged Toygonbayev with robbery, fraud and tax-dodging. The Kyrgyz police detained him in Aug 2011. In 2016, he was twice detained in Moscow. But each time he was set free.
