There will be no ‘plan B’ for the Syrian ceasefire, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced today, on Feb 25. Lavrov was commenting on a statement made by US Secretary of State John Kerry, who previously said that Washington had a plan B in case the power transition procedure in Syria fails.
“We have already said out final word on the plan B: it will never happen. No one will have it,” the Russian minister said. He added that the Russian draft resolution on Syria can be discussed by, the UN Security Council at any moment.
John Kerry while speaking at the Senate on Feb 23, said it would be clear in several weeks whether the ceasefire in Syria will succeed and if the transitional political process can be launched in the country. He said, al Assad will have to make a number of decisions to establish a real transitional process in the governance.
