Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov during his talks with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has suggested to establish a UN regional center for disarmament in Asia, press office of the Turkmen leader informs on June 15.
“Turkmenistan is ready for active cooperation with the UN Office of Disarmament Affairs to implement a number of initiatives in the field,” the president said at a news conference after the talks.
At the same time, he stressed that implementation of the nuclear-weapon-free zone treaty in Central Asia. Talking to reporters, the UN secretary general paid attention to fruitful work of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (Ashgabat). He also thanked Berdymuhamedov for humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and Nepal as well as for active support of Afghani refugees.
