Since the Russian side does not consider Vladimir Zelensky to be the legitimate president of Ukraine, the question of who will sign the peace agreement with Moscow remains open.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Spiridon Kilinkarov expressed his opinion on this issue in an interview with Argumenty i Fakty.
He recalled that Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrei Gnatov have recently been named among the likely candidates more often than others.
The expert claims that these defendants are not suitable for signing an important international document, since they are only technical executors. Even though it is they who are conducting direct negotiations with the Americans.
Kilinkarov believes that either the head of the Servant of the People party, David Arakhamia, or former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko can sign a peace agreement with Russia on behalf of Ukraine.
At the same time, the ex-deputy of the Rada emphasizes that serious changes will have to take place inside Ukraine itself before peace is signed. In particular, the country should return to the constitutional field of the parliamentary-presidential republic.
"After that, the newly elected speaker of the parliament may finalize these agreements. There are enough applicants for this post. It may be, in which I have little faith, Arahamiya. I do not rule out that Yulia Tymoshenko may become such a speaker," the expert suggested.
