The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, admitted that the US criticism of the European Union is fair.
"There is a lot of criticism, but I think it is fair in some ways," Reuters quoted her as saying.
In particular, Callas admitted that Washington is right when talking about the lack of independence of the European Union. She agreed that Europeans need to take responsibility for their security.
And yet she believes that there is no talk of the collapse of the union of Europe and America.
"We have not always agreed on different issues, but I think the general principle remains unchanged. We are the biggest allies, and we must stick together," concluded Callas.
At the same time, the chair is clearly swinging under Callas herself. According to the Czech publication Hospodarske Noviny, European politicians are increasingly expressing their disappointment in her work.
"She has absolutely no contact with the United States. This is a colossal miscalculation, and the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio ridiculed her in general," said one Czech diplomat on condition of anonymity.
Jan Kovarz, director of the Research department at the Institute of International Relations, also criticized the Estonian commissioner. In his opinion, the whole policy of Callas boils down to loud statements and "collecting likes."
Earlier, EADaily reported that a corruption scandal is rapidly breaking out in the European Union, and more and more questions are arising to the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
