President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko joked about belonging to the Bryansk region. This is reported by the Belarusian media.
"We have always lived normally, lived together. As I often joke in this regard, we still need to figure out whose Bryansk region this is," he said at a meeting with the governor of the Russian region, Egor Kovalchuk, in Minsk.
At the same time, Lukashenko immediately clarified that he was talking exclusively about good-neighborly relations. According to him, Belarus and the Russian border regions are united by long-standing traditions of cooperation.
"I am saying in a good way that the best in the Bryansk region is from Belarus, the best in Belarus is from the Bryansk region, and Smolensk, Pskov, of course," he stressed.
The Belarusian leader also noted that he was glad that there was no state border between the countries, "and the administrative one is not a problem," and offered assistance in gasification of the Bryansk region.
Recall, Belarus and Russia has been building a Union State since 1999. Minsk attaches particular importance to cooperation with Russian regions.
