According to Mash, 15 units of fire equipment were pulled into place. Eyewitnesses observed a cloud of white smoke over the domes of the cathedral. To date, the fire has been extinguished, no information about the victims has been received.
St. Basil's Cathedral, officially called the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is on the Moat, was built in 1555-1561 at the behest of Tsar Ivan the Terrible. The construction was carried out in honor of the capture of Kazan and the accession of the Kazan Khanate to the Russian state.
