On June 25, the Romanian Ambassador to Moscow, Cristian Istrate, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry and handed a note declaring the Consul General of Romania persona non grata in Moscow. "This measure is a response to Bucharest's unjustified withdrawal of consent to the work of the Russian Consulate General in Constance and the announcement of its head persona non grata," the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
As EADaily reported, earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, informed about the summoning of the Romanian Ambassador Istrate.
At the end of May, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported that a drone had fallen on the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galac. Bucharest blamed Russia for the incident. The Russian ambassador was summoned to the Romanian Foreign Ministry to inform about the measures to be taken at the diplomatic level. After the meeting of the Supreme Defense Council, Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced his decision to close the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Constanta and declare the Consul General persona non grata.
