The United Kingdom intends on Tuesday morning to announce a new package of sanctions against Russia, which will include ships for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG), the office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, said.
"It is expected that the UK will be the first to impose sanctions against several gas carriers carrying Russian LNG under sanctions. This package of measures is expected to increase the number of vessels under UK sanctions ... to more than 600," the statement said.
The office explained that the new package of sanctions "will be directed directly against the Russian ... shadow fleet and financial networks used to circumvent Western sanctions and support military procurement."
The statement is timed to coincide with the G7 meeting that opened in Evian, France, where Starmer intends to speak at the meeting.
