European airlines called for The EU will take decisive measures to compensate for the consequences of the Iranian war and stop the export of oil, gas and petroleum products from The Persian Gulf.
"European airlines have called on the European Union to take emergency measures to combat the consequences of the war with Iran, including the widespread closure of airspace and growing concern about the shortage of aviation fuel," Reuters reports, citing a letter from the industry association Airlines for Europe (A4E) to the European Commission.
Airlines are proposing to introduce monitoring of aviation fuel supplies at the EU level, temporarily suspend the operation of the EU carbon market for aviation and cancel some of the aviation taxes.
Also, the aviation industry, which includes such giants as Lufthansa, Air France-KLM and easyJet, called for The EU should amend the requirement for countries to maintain 90-day oil reserves in case of emergencies, since this requirement does not currently include a specific requirement for aviation fuel.
Last week, the industry group Airports Council of Europe (ACI) warned that Europe could face a systemic shortage of aviation fuel within three weeks.
What still worries airlines is the situation with the closure of airspace due to the war and the associated operational consequences - the non—use of slots.
The European Commission itself said that so far they do not see any problems with jet fuel.
"There is currently no evidence of fuel shortages in the European Union, but supply problems may arise in the near future," said a representative of the European Commission. According to him, there is no need for additional supplies yet.
