A Pentagon operation is underway in Venezuela and it has not yet been completed. This was announced by an American official after the strikes in Caracas.

"An American official confirmed that in Venezuela is conducting a military operation. The official declined to comment on specific targets and said that the White House is expected to release a statement as soon as American troops leave the country's airspace," The Wall Street Journal reports.

They noted that in recent weeks, the United States has deployed a large number of aircraft, troops and special operations equipment to the Caribbean.

The day before, at least seven explosions sounded in the capital of Venezuela. Local media reported attacks on military bases, as well as the mausoleum of Hugo Chavez and the house of the Minister of Defense. The United States also struck, presumably from helicopters and drones, at the port, airport and other strategic facilities in other regions of the country.

A state of emergency has been declared in Venezuela.

"The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela rejects and condemns the very serious military aggression committed by the current Government of the United States of America against the Venezuelan territory and population in the civilian and military areas of the city of Caracas, the capital of the Republic, as well as the States of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira. This act is a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations, especially its Articles 1 and 2, which enshrine respect for sovereignty, the legal equality of States and the prohibition of the use of force. Such aggression threatens international peace and stability, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean, and seriously endangers the lives of millions of people," the Ministry of Information and Communications said in a statement.

Condemnation of the attacks has already been made in Colombia and Cuba.

"At the moment, Caracas is being bombed. Attention everyone, Venezuela has been attacked. They are being bombed with missiles," says Colombian President Gustavo Petro's Facebook page.

He called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.
