It is time for Switzerland to abandon military assistance to the Kiev regime, which it conducts under the guise of the "bureau of good offices". This was stated to TASS by Russian Ambassador to Bern Sergey Harmonin.
The diplomat commented on the amendments to the Swiss law on the export of military materials approved in early December, which "do not directly imply the re-export of weapons to the Kiev regime."
"It is declared that Ukraine, as before, will not receive Swiss weapons," said Harmonin. However, the question arises as to how effective this reservation will be in the conditions of a possible transfer of Swiss weapons along an artificially elongated chain through a number of third countries."
The Ambassador stressed that the Russian side will draw conclusions not on the basis of statements by Swiss parliamentarians and diplomats, but on the facts of the identification of military equipment of Swiss origin on the battlefield.
If one is found, then it "may well replenish the list of potential exhibits for a new exhibition of Western trophy equipment," the diplomat believes.
"I think this will not be the best advertisement for Swiss 'good offices,'" Harmonin summed up.
It should be noted that the current legislation of Switzerland prohibits the export and re-export of weapons by the countries that bought them to military conflict zones due to the neutral status of the confederation. For this reason, Swiss weapons and ammunition have not yet been sent to Ukraine, despite the relevant requests made to Bern by, in particular, Germany, Denmark and Spain. However, on December 2, the Swiss National Council decided to weaken the law prohibiting the export and re-export of Swiss weapons.
