In Belgium, unknown drones were spotted near the city of Pere over the Kleine-Brogel military airbase, where American nuclear weapons are stored. This was announced by Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of November 1.
"Several drones were spotted over Kleine-Brogel. The detection system is working," Franken said.
He noted that a special meeting with the police should be held next week to analyze the threat and take the necessary measures to find and arrest drone operators.
"Drone flights over military areas are strictly prohibited. The Ministry of Defense should do everything possible to ensure that they can be shot down," he stressed.
The minister said that a plan for a drone protection system worth 50 million euros was ready. On Tuesday it will be discussed by the interdepartmental working group, and on Friday it will be presented to the Council of Ministers.
Recall that in recent months in a number of European countries there have been reports of the invasion of drones in their airspace. In most cases, Russia is blamed for what is happening, although no evidence of this is given. At the same time, earlier Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken threatened to "erase Moscow from the world map."
