Two Indian refineries have purchased large quantities of oil in South American Guyana, Reuters reports, citing its sources.
India's largest refinery corporation Indian Oil Corp purchased 2 million barrels of Guyana oil brand Golden Arrowhead from the American company Exxon Mobil. The delivery is scheduled for late December or early January 2026, the sources said.
The refinery of Hindustan Petroleum Corp also purchased 2 million barrels of Guyanese oil for delivery during the same period.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi allegedly promised to stop buying oil from Russia. On the same day, the Indian Foreign Ministry did not confirm that Modi had a conversation with the US president the day before.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that in matters of the supply of Russian oil, it is necessary to take into account the position of the buying countries and the question of benefits.
