Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has called Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement on the Azerbaijani president's website.
"The Head of State congratulated Vladimir Putin on his birthday, wished him new successes in government activities and good health. Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to the President of Azerbaijan for his attention and congratulations," the message reads.
The heads of State stressed "the successful development of friendly relations between the countries in various fields, discussed prospects for cooperation and issues related to new contacts."
