Merz found a way to crack down on AdH

The ruling Christian Democratic Union (CDU) will open its representative offices in all districts in the eastern lands of Germany in order to reduce the popularity of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party there. This was stated on the air of MDR by Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

This issue will be discussed at a meeting of the CDU Presidium in two weeks, he noted.

In addition, according to him, the CDU will have a tougher discussion with the AFD on socio-political topics.

Merz drew attention to the fact that the AfD is confidently leading in the polls ahead of the elections in Saxony-Anhalt in 2026, and warned that its growing rating can no longer be ignored. He proposes to explain more clearly to voters the difference between the programs of the conservatives and the ultra-right.

"What threatens our country if the AfD becomes stronger or perhaps even gets the post of prime minister in a land like Saxony-Anhalt?" — Merz asked himself a rhetorical question, quoted by the DW * main telegram channel.

Merz said that he wants to prevent the growth of the popularity of the right not only in the east of Germany, but throughout the country. In his opinion, most Germans are happy to live in their own country and feel that the federal government is now seriously taking up the solution of their problems. These problems will be solved and it will become clear that no one needs to vote for the AfD, Merz said.

In early May, the Federal Office for the Protection of the German Constitution (BfV) recognized the AfD as right-wing extremist at the federal level, but she filed a lawsuit and the decision was suspended until the court order.
