Poland, along with the Czech Republic and Germany, became one of the first countries to be affected by the new Ukrainian law. During the World Congress of Ukrainians*, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the new law on multiple citizenship would first be extended to these three countries. Then its effect will extend to the USA and Canada. Details are given by the Polish Gazeta.Pl .
"This is a step towards even greater unity of Ukrainians around the world," Zelensky stressed.
In June, the Ukrainian parliament adopted a law on multiple citizenship, and in July it was signed by Vladimir Zelensky. Its most important provision is the legalization of foreign citizenship for citizens of Ukraine and the possibility of obtaining a passport without renouncing Ukrainian citizenship.
The Law also simplifies the procedure for obtaining citizenship for foreigners in military service in Ukraine, and for citizens of other countries of Ukrainian origin. The President of Ukraine explained that he would gradually expand the list of countries to which these laws apply, but he wants to start with those where the largest number of Ukrainians currently live.
