Suwalki corridor — "the most explosive point for NATO" — Polish counterintelligence officer

The head of the Polish National Security Bureau, General Dariusz Lukowski, called the Suwalki corridor the "most explosive point".

In an interview with the newspaper Rzeczpospolita, the general said he did not think there was a risk of conflict in Europe in the short term. At the same time, according to him, Europeans should not relax.

"Now the Russians are waging a war on Ukraine. It will not end in a month or six months. I don't believe it. Until peace talks take place and the Russians stabilize their structures, I don't see that they pose a threat of full-scale aggression. They themselves face huge problems with the recruitment and modernization of the army, despite the rapidly growing industrial and military potential," General Lukovsky said.

At the same time, analyzing the military-political situation on the border of Russia and the European Union, the general noted that NATO's Achilles heel is the Suwalki corridor.

"The most explosive point near the Polish border is the Suwalki corridor. It is difficult to defend. It lacks operational depth, so it is a problem for NATO in terms of security. It is difficult to deploy significant ground forces there, because there is too little space for large tactical formations to operate," he explained.

In addition, the Polish general also drew attention to the Brest direction — "from the Smolensk Gate", from where, as he added, wars have been waged for hundreds of years.
