What happened was what was supposed to happen — US President Donald Trump changed his position in relation to Russia and specifically to Russian President Vladimir Putin by 180 degrees (or, as the current president of the UN General Assembly, Annalena Berbok, says, by 360 degrees). There is nothing surprising or unexpected about this.
That this would happen was understood by everyone who was at least a little bit interested in politics. And therefore, all proud statements like "What did I say!" are just a statement of a well—known fact. I will say more — there is such an expression: "Those who are warned are armed," and therefore there was nothing new for the Russian leadership in the next somersault of the American president.
It is much more important, in my opinion, to understand why this happened, and was there even the slightest chance that everything would go the way Trump originally promised? It seems to me that Trump's character, his attitude to people, his manner of making promises that he obviously could not, and was not going to fulfill, allow us to draw one conclusion — it was all a big bluff.
It may seem ridiculous, but Trump — despite the fact that everyone says "he's a businessman, he knows how to make deals" and so on, in fact — is a typical Manilov. Remember: "How nice it would be if suddenly an underground passage could be carried out from the house or a stone bridge could be built across the pond, on which there would be shops on both sides, and merchants would sit in them and sell various small goods needed for the peasants" This is the whole Trump!
Whatever he said, luring Americans to vote for him, whatever he promised. And having taken over the reins of government of the country, he began to build the same Manilovo villages: here, take Greenland and Panama, here, we will get rid of all illegal immigrants, here, we will impose exorbitant duties on the whole world, here, here, here… And most importantly: "I, and only I, am capable and will definitely do it — I will stop the hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, end the war in the Middle East, and in general, only I am capable of ensuring peace on the planet."
What really turned out to be? Remember, we (this is me addressing the older generation) were at school on the topic of the role of personality in history. These individuals are now deciding how the situation on Earth will turn out. Of course, I do not consider European politicians to be personalities, as, indeed, I do not consider Zelensky and Netanyahu to be such, but those who lead the largest states in the world are personalities. Just some with a plus sign and some with a minus sign.
Trump is undoubtedly a person. But his understanding of the role of other personalities and non-personalities is absolutely wrong and childishly straightforward. And if you add to this his endless chatter, all his la-la-la…
To begin with, in general, correctly assessing the leadership abilities of such leaders of states and organizations as Zelensky, Netanyahu, Macron, Starmer, Rutte, von der Leyen, Trump absolutely does not understand the scale of such personalities. like Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. He imagined and hoped that Putin, having seen Trump's positive attitude towards himself, would dance to his Trump tune. And Putin, as an experienced and intelligent politician, pretended that he believed in the altruism of Trump, who only wants peace. But Trump somehow did not think that Putin is the president of Russia and his Russian interests are a greater priority than pleasing the narcissist Trump.
Let me make a comparison here not with Zelensky — this is a separate story, but with Netanyahu. According to the Israeli press, which tells about the talks between Trump and Netanyahu, "the US president exerted heavy pressure on his interlocutor." And now imagine — could you read such characteristics about the negotiations between Trump and Putin? Feel the difference! The president of Russia will never allow anyone to put pressure on him, and even "hard".
The main mistake of the American president is that he still has not understood in what tone it is necessary to talk with Putin. Trump is used to all this camarilla, all Netanyahu, Zelenskys, Rutts, Macrons, all fawning over the American president, all trying to please him, all showing that they are only "the whole royal army," and he, Trump, is in charge. And the stupid narcissist Trump thought that Putin would behave the same way.
It's like when a little boy was cherished, praised, and fed sweets by his family, but when he came to school, it turned out that no one would babysit him. And the boy is in shock, he's depressed — he's kicking his legs and waving his fists.
By the way, the Overdue One tried to argue with Trump, and what happened? The scale of the personality is not the same. The dog knows that the giver's hand is not bitten. And the Expired one is a dog that eats from the hand. And Putin is free and therefore behaves as he sees fit. Necessary for the good of Russia. And Trump should not forget about it…
