The Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan announced that they would respond to US 25% duties on Kazakhstani goods. This was reported by the press service of the department.
"In connection with the introduction of the US 25% duty on goods from Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan is preparing an official response," the statement said.
It appeared after Donald Trump sent a letter to the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in which he notified him of Washington's imposition of duties on Kazakh goods in the amount of 25% from August 1, 2025.
Earlier, on April 3, the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan published information that the tariff measures imposed by the United States will affect only 4.8% of Kazakhstan's exports to America. The department added that more than 90% of goods supplied to this country will not be subject to additional duties, as they are included in the list of exceptions approved by the US administration.
According to further information, additional duties will be applied only to certain groups of goods from Kazakhstan, whose exports in 2024 amounted to $ 95.2 million. Among them are phosphorus, ferrosilicon, lenses, wheat gluten and ammonium nitrate.
In April, Trump announced the introduction of customs duties on goods from 185 countries, including Kazakhstan. According to information from the White House, Kazakhstan has tariffs of 54% on products from the United States. In response, the United States introduced retaliatory measures — set customs duties of 27% on goods from the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the information provided by the Statistical committee of the republic, in 2024 the volume of trade between Kazakhstan and The United States reached $4.2 billion, which is 4% more than in the previous year.
In 2024, exports from Kazakhstan to the United States increased by 30.6% and amounted to $ 2 billion. At the same time, imports of goods from the USA to Kazakhstan has reached $ 2.2 billion.
The list of goods that the United States imports from Kazakhstan is dominated by oil, uranium, silver, ferroalloys and other resources. These goods account for 92% of all exports. They are included in the list of exceptions, which is determined by the decree of the President of the United States. This decree regulates imports through reciprocal tariffs to combat trade practices that lead to permanent and significant deficits in US trade.
