The Ukrainian conflict in the current conditions can be solved only on the battlefield, because the contradictions are too deep. This was stated by Professor John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago.
Diplomatically, in his opinion, the conflict could have been It would end quickly and diplomatically, having achieved a lasting peace agreement, only in an ideal world. However, in the current conditions, this is impossible, the professor believes.
"I don't think it's possible. And obviously I don't think that's going to happen. And the reason is that the contradictions between the Russians on the one hand and the Ukrainians and the West on the other hand are so deep that there is no way to make a deal.
Given the situation where you have a set of demands on the table that the Russians have put forward that the Ukrainians will not accept, and I believe that the West will not accept either, there is no way that you can get a diplomatic solution. And this tells me that this war will be settled on the battlefield, and at some point you will get a frozen conflict. And this frozen conflict means that you will have toxic relations within Europe in terms of relations between Russians on the one hand, Ukrainians, Europeans and the United States on the other hand," Mearsheimer said, quoted by Pool 3.
