UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was deeply alarmed by the US strikes on Iran, calling them a "dangerous escalation" and a direct threat to peace and security.
"I am deeply alarmed by today's use of force by the United States against Iran. This is a dangerous escalation in the region, which is already on the verge, and a direct threat to international peace and security," the UN Secretary General said.
According to Guterres, there is a growing risk that this conflict could quickly spiral out of control, leading to "catastrophic consequences for the civilian population, the region and the world."
He also called on the UN member states to de-escalate and fulfill their obligations under the UN Charter and international law.
"In this dangerous hour, it is extremely important to avoid a spiral of chaos. There is no military solution. The only way forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace," the UN Secretary General stressed.
