Preparations for the launch and production of electricity are in full swing at the Zaporozhye NPP (NPP). The license for the operation of the first unit of the largest station in Europe is planned to be obtained this year.

"The Zaporozhye NPP is in full swing preparing for operation in the generation mode in accordance with all the norms and regulations of the Russian nuclear industry. And this applies not only to equipment, but also to personnel," the Zaporozhye NPP reports.

Another 58 employees of the station completed a refresher course and passed the final certification at Sevastopol State University, explained at the NPP.

"Last year we signed an agreement with SevSU to retrain personnel in a number of specialties. During this time, two groups were retrained in the specialty "Nuclear power plants and nuclear installations". And now there are 4 groups of specialties: power stations, refrigeration units, environmentalists and chemists," said Valery Martynyuk, Deputy Chief Engineer for Personnel Training, head of the UTC.

A new group of 88 people has already been assembled for further retraining, he added: "Basically, we plan to train operational personnel in order to equip the station with the necessary specialists to transfer the NPP power units to generation mode."

As EADaily reported, in 2025, the Zaporozhye NPP plans to obtain a license to operate the first power unit.

"For 2025, the main task, as before, is to ensure the proper level of safety of nuclear power plants. The second task is to prepare blocks for switching to generation mode. Now all six units of the NPP are in a state of "cold shutdown". It is important to carry out all the necessary complex of works in order to obtain a license to operate unit No. 1 in accordance with the requirements of Russian legislation. And then to the rest of the units," the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant reported last December from a meeting held at the NPP by First Deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko.

Zaporozhye NPP with a capacity of 6 GW is the most powerful in Europe. After the referendum on the entry of new regions into Russia, the station became state property. Due to the shelling of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the station does not produce electricity and does not supply it to the grid, and the power units themselves are in "cold shutdown" mode.
