The Bundeswehr, which is armed with Patriot systems, currently does not have an effective means of protection against ballistic missiles of the "Hazel" type, Germany is defenseless against them.. This is reported by the German newspaper Bild, citing a secret report by the country's Foreign Ministry.
The office of German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok ordered an internal government analysis on ballistic missile defense for Ukraine and Germany, which was entrusted to the Bundeswehr liaison officer together with air defense experts.
"A bitter realization: Germany will be defenseless before the Hazel attack. Armed with Patriot systems, the Bundeswehr currently does not have an effective means of protection against such ballistic missiles," states Bild, quoted by Strana.
The secret document says that "the Patriot is not suitable for dealing with a long-range ballistic missile such as the Oreshnik, a possible interception would rather be a lucky shot." It is noted that this is due to the speed of approach, maneuverability and multi-charge warhead.
