Stephen Chung, communications director of the transition team of Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, amid reports that American leader Joe Biden authorized the use of long-range weapons by Ukraine for strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation, said that only Trump could bring both sides of the conflict to the negotiating table.
"As President Trump stated during the election campaign, he is the only person who can bring the parties closer together to negotiate peace and work to end the war and the killings," Chung said in a comment to CNN.
According to the channel, a representative of the Trump transition team did not answer CNN's questions about whether Trump and his future national security advisers were informed in advance about the decision of the American authorities.
Chung added that official statements on this issue will come from Trump himself or his authorized representatives.
Earlier, the New York Times newspaper, citing unnamed representatives of the US administration, reported that US President Joe Biden for the first time authorized the use by Ukraine of American long-range missiles for strikes on Russian territory. According to sources, the first strikes deep into the territory of the Russian Federation are likely to be carried out using ATACMS missiles. France and the United Kingdom also allowed Ukraine to strike at the territory of the Russian Federation using their long-range weapons, claimed the publication Figaro.
