Kazakhstan will refrain from applying for membership in BRICS for the time being. Tokayev prefers the UN. This was stated by the Press secretary of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Berik Uali in an interview with Tengrinews agency.
According to him, the president received proposals on the republic's accession to the association. And they are carefully considered by Tokayev and analyzed by the relevant departments from the point of view of Kazakhstan's national interests.
"At the same time, at the present time and, most likely, in the foreseeable future, Kazakhstan will refrain from applying to BRICS, including taking into account the multi—stage process of considering membership, as well as other issues related to the prospects for the development of this association," Uali said.
At the same time, he added, Kazakhstan is watching with interest the evolution of this association, and also supports the calls of the leaders of the founding states of the organization to make every effort to build a just, democratic world order free from the "hegemony of any superpowers."
At the same time, as stated by Uali, Tokayev prefers the UN as a universal and non-alternative organization in which it is possible and necessary to discuss all current international problems, including those related to the construction of a just world order.
