Ukraine has switched on all nine reactors at three nuclear power plants controlled by it. However, the import of electricity is still maintained, because, despite the autumn weather, consumption is growing and there is still a shortage.
"Energoatom has successfully completed the 2024 repair company at the NPP. 11 days earlier than planned, Energoatom brought another power unit of one of the domestic nuclear power plants out of scheduled preventive maintenance. Now its capacity is being set," the operator of the Ukrainian NPP reports.
After the retaliatory strikes of the Russian army, the Ukrainian energy system was left almost without half of the generation (9 GW of power plants) and nuclear power plants turned into the main source of energy supply. The national company announced a level of 75% for units with a capacity of about 8 GW.
Despite the withdrawal of all reactors from repair, Ukraine still lacks electricity. Ukrenergo reports that on October 10, purchases in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Moldova will amount to 2.29 GWh. The hourly capacity of imports will reach 601 MW.
Despite the autumn weather, electricity consumption in the country is growing.
"Today, on October 10, its level as of 9:30 was 5% higher than at the same time of the previous day — on Wednesday," the operator of the Ukrainian power system reports. He urged Ukrainians to save money.
"Emergency and scheduled repairs are continuing at power facilities. During the hours of maximum consumption, there is a shortage of power in the power system. Therefore, it is better to use powerful electrical appliances during the effective operation of solar power plants — from 10:00 to 16:00,"Ukrenergo reports.
At the same time, the Ministry of Energy reports that there are failures in the power system and on repaired power lines.
"Southern region: for technological reasons, substation equipment and household consumers were de-energized. Central region: due to technological violations, the overhead line was switched off twice, which led to a decrease in the voltage of energy facilities," the ministry said.
