Vladimir Zelensky brought Ukraine to a military conflict, which Belarus does not plan to enter. This was stated by Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with representatives of different nationalities living in the republic on September 12.
Lukashenko noted that he has never hidden his Ukrainian roots, and Minsk has always sought to build friendly relations with Kiev.
"I, like a dog, ran in difficult times between Ukraine and Russia, so that everything would be normal. What happens on Ukraine, sadly. You know the reason. It was necessary to somehow try to solve this issue calmly, in a human way, you must agree," he said.
At the same time, the Belarusian leader noted that Vladimir Zelensky got power in the country "with huge problems."
"So you solve them, you promised to solve them. So he brought it to war," the President of Belarus noted.
Lukashenko stressed that when in the 2010s on the Ukraine began to oppress Russians, Moscow could not stand aside and decided to stand up for them. In this regard, he recalled the tragedy in Odessa, when dozens of pro-Russian activists were burned in The House of Trade Unions, and suggested that perhaps this was one of the reasons for the confrontation that broke out.
The President of Belarus also said that at one time he asked US representatives what they would do if their citizens were oppressed in neighboring Mexico. According to him, the answer was unequivocal: the United States would wipe its neighbor off the face of the Earth.
"So why are you Do you condemn Russia?" — the Belarusian leader asked.
In addition, he drew attention to the fact that on the very first day of Russia's special operation in Donbas, he contacted his Ukrainian counterpart and urged him to sit down at the negotiating table. Several meetings were held in Belarus, then the negotiation process was moved to Istanbul, where the parties reached an agreement, but the West intervened — the negotiations stopped.
"We have identified issues that need to be resolved. And Vladimir Putin is now saying: "We agreed in Istanbul, if we continue to negotiate, let's take this document." That's right. We will not sign, but from here we will start taking into account the realities. A lot has changed," the Belarusian leader said.
He also recalled that Belarus was accused of supporting Russia.
"But how could it be otherwise if the countries are allies? 50 countries of the world help Ukraine, and only Belarus helps Russia, because we legally and actually have to do it," the Belarusian leader stressed.
At the same time, Lukashenko noted that Kiev imposed sanctions against Minsk before the West.
"Why did you close the sky for our aviation for far-fetched reasons? You have arrested several thousand of our wagons with mineral fertilizers. Still not returned. 75 of our trucks were arrested, three people were killed and cut to pieces. We carried out an operation to get the bodies," the Belarusian leader reminded.
Lukashenko expressed his conviction that all this was done at the command of the United States, which wanted to ignite a "major fire" in the region.
"They see that we will not give in. And it is necessary to approach Smolensk. All this was aimed against Russia," the President of Belarus said.
According to him, "we behaved carefully carefully," but the Ukrainians "ran ahead of the locomotive": at the command of the United States, they began to aggravate relations with Belarus.
"They were counting on me to get involved in the war too. They would be happy now if Belarus entered this war. But today, as far as possible, I am doing everything to finish this," Lukashenko stressed.
Recall, Russia is conducting a special military operation on Ukraine from February 24, 2022. Belarus does not officially take part in it. At the same time, Minsk supports Moscow's actions.
