The man who shot Donald Trump was on the roof of the building, outside the venue of the rally, CNN writes, citing sources. Several interlocutors of the TV channel called him a "sniper".
The Butler County District Attorney said that the shooter was in the building, and that he would have needed a rifle to fire from such a distance, since the distance to the podium was hundreds of meters.
Former Trump campaign adviser David Urban told CNN that, according to eyewitnesses, several shots were fired. Candidate for Republican Senator Dave McCormick heard several "claps" to his left and to the right of Trump, who was standing on the podium.
"He saw Trump fall, and believes that a man was shot in the head behind him in the second row, and also believes that several other people could have been injured," Urban conveyed McCormick's words.
At that moment, McCormick fell to the ground, and when he got up, Secret Service agents "surrounded everyone and scattered," Urban continued.
The New York Post also calls the shooter a sniper and, citing sources, confirms that the fire was conducted from a distance of hundreds of meters from the podium, outside the security perimeter. The publication also writes that the victim of the sniper was a man who was on the podium behind Trump.
Trump's representative previously said that the ex-president is being examined by doctors. The US Secret Service said that the politician is safe. In the footage from the scene of the attack, blood was visible on Trump's face, presumably he was wounded in the ear.
