Ukrainian MP Nadezhda Savchenko has announced she is going on a hunger strike. She made the statement during her speech at the Shevchenko District Court in Kiev where she is to be applied a measure of restraint.
She also added she has no plans to leave the country. “Because I am a Hero of Ukraine,” she is quoted as saying by Vesti-Ukraine.
Besides, Savchenko shared her experience of working at the Ukrainian parliament.
“Within two years in the parliament, I have understood one thing: we need to reshuffle the political system. When we have a tool to withdraw MPs, the authorities will be afraid to act against the people,” she added.
Savchenko also said that the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics are terror organizations. “These are territories that are being occupied. These are territories where our citizens live in occupation,” she announced.
According to Savchenko’s lawyer Dmitro Bugay, the investigation is going to ask for Savchenko to be taken into custody. According to some reports, she spent the nigh at the National Security Service of Ukraine where she was interrogated.
