On August 12, Armenia’s Defense Ministry reported two failed attempts by Azerbaijani subversive groups to penetrate into the near border zone. In addition, the press-office of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Ministry reports that on August 12 at about 12:30pm, soldier Karen Hovhannisyan was killed by the Azerbaijani forces at his army unit located in the east of the Line of Contact.
The ministry reports that the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan started destabilizing the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border and in the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army’s responsibility zone immediately after the European Games in Baku. The Azerbaijani forces breach the ceasefire every day, using weapons of various calibers, even 60mm and 82mm mortars, the ministry says in the statement.
According to the source, Azerbaijan’s efforts to settle the Karabakh conflict by force and its inflammatory rhetoric are nothing but self-deception. Their provocations are fraught with “unpredictable consequences” for the Azerbaijani army.
“Armenia’s Defense Ministry once again highlights the importance of the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and observation of the ceasefire along the Line of Contact, and to that end, calls for confidence-building measures and introduction of mechanisms of international inquiry into incidents,” the ministry says in the statement.
