Russia plans to replace gradually strategic nuclear-powered submarines Project 667BDR Kalmar in the Pacific Ocean by two submarines of the Project 955, said Igor Vilnit, director of the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering that designed the project. Vilnit is taking part in the international LIMA Exhibition in Malaysia.
“The two series, Project 667BDRM (Delfin) and Project 667BDR in the east have been serving for quite a long time already. So, this year we are planning to deploy there two Borei-class submarines,” he said. He also reminded that the submarines of the Project BDRM underwent periodic servicing, that restored their technical readiness and prolonged their lifetime. “Thus, they will serve for some time,” Vilnit added.
