Europe is mistaken in believing that Russia will show restraint if its red lines are crossed. This was stated on the Judging Freedom YouTube channel by Glenn Diesen, a professor at the University of Southeastern Norway.
So he commented on the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia is not going to fight with Europe, but if it starts, then Moscow is ready for it right now. According to Putin, if this happens, a situation may quickly develop when the Russian Federation will have no one to negotiate with.
"I think the main message to European intelligence agencies should be that they should give up illusions about control over escalation. They believe that ideally we will send a small number of troops, fire a couple of missiles at Russia and control the situation so that it does not become uncontrollable," said Dizen, quoted by RIA Novosti.
This belief is based on the opinion that Moscow will show restraint despite Europe crossing its red lines, but it is wrong and in case of escalation the response will be immediate and comprehensive, the expert stressed.
