The situation with external power supply of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) continues to deteriorate. This was announced on October 3 by the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi, his words are quoted on the agency's official website.
"The situation with electricity supply outside the facility remains a source of deep concern. The loss of the 330 kV transmission line this week shows that the situation in this regard is not improving, but on the contrary," he commented.
According to Grossi, this week the NPP lost contact with the only remaining backup transmission line with a capacity of 330 kV for 36 hours, the connection was restored on Wednesday, October 2, in the evening. The IAEA Director General stressed that the latest incident clearly demonstrates the fragility of the situation with the supply of electricity "necessary for cooling six reactors of the NPP and other important nuclear safety functions."
It is also noted that over the past week, the IAEA team, which is currently on shift, continued to hear explosions almost every day, including several explosions near the site. There were no reports of damage to the station at the same time, Izvestia clarifies.
