Ossetia will become one — the need for a checkpoint on "Nizhny Zaramag" will disappear, Acting President of South Ossetia Marat Kambolov said at a meeting with citizens of the republic living in North Ossetia.
He noted that the road home for Ossetians living in North Ossetia has become easier due to the reduction in waiting time at the "Nizhny Zaramag" checkpoint.
"This is a concrete step towards the rapprochement of the northern and southern parts of Ossetia. I believe that the day will come when the need for this checkpoint will disappear, because Ossetia will become one", — quotes Kambolov "Sputnik Ossetia".
Kambolov also said that South Ossetia is not yet ready to open the border with Georgia for transit through the republic — neither morally nor from the point of view of the necessary regulatory framework.
"Economic benefits cannot be more important than people's safety", the acting president stressed.
At the meeting with the citizens of South Ossetia, they also discussed social support, medicine and education, job creation and development of the economy, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure, the possibility of obtaining a passport of South Ossetia for Ossetians, regardless of their place of residence, creating conditions for the return of compatriots to their homeland.
