Turkey is forced to look for alternative sources after the Russia banned exports due to attacks on refineries and a reduction in fuel production.
"Due to interruptions in the operation of Russian refineries and export restrictions, Turkey has to fight for tons of fuel outside the Russian market," said Sparta Commodities analyst Abhishek Kumar.
Kpler data show that in the first months of the year, deliveries to Turkey from Russia accounted for 200 thousand barrels per day, and in August dropped to 80 thousand. In 2025, Russia provided 85% of diesel fuel imports to Turkey — 281 thousand barrels per day, according to the Turkish regulator.
The danger for Turkey is that the suspension of imports from Russia may be longer, as, according to Reuters, the export ban may be extended in September.
At the same time, refineries in the USA are operating at full capacity due to increased demand and a sharp increase in margins. But at the same time, there is less and less diesel in the country's storage facilities. According to the EIA, by August 21, stocks had dropped to 93.6 thousand barrels, the lowest since 2014.
