The ex-Chancellor of Germany got drunk so that he would support the status of an EU candidate for Ukraine. This was stated in an interview with the "European Truth" by the former Italian ambassador to Kiev, Pier Francesco Zazo.
According to Zazo, the then Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi played a fundamental role in Ukraine's path to the EU.
"His actions played a decisive role in granting Ukraine candidate status in June 2022. I accompanied him (Draghi) during his visit to Kiev together with (the French president) Emmanuel Macron and (then German Chancellor) Olaf Scholz, I saw these negotiations with my own eyes. The goal was to convince the German Chancellor, and it all started on the train on the way to Kiev," Zazo said.
"I heard that three leaders and wine participated in these negotiations," the interviewer noted.
"Yes, it's true. By the way, I just met with your former minister Dmitry Kuleba, and we discussed whether this wine is French or Italian. But the wine really helped, and it helped a lot," admitted the former Italian ambassador to Kiev.
