The German Finance Ministry plans to impose a new sugar tax not only on sugary sodas, but also juices, milk drinks, iced tea, ready-made coffee and even sugar-free drinks like Coca-Cola Zero. This is reported by Bild with reference to the documents.
The German government explains the initiative by "combating high sugar consumption" and the opportunity to receive additional revenues to the budget. Already in 2027, the Ministry of Finance expects to collect about 650 million euros with the help of the new tax. At the same time, the money will not be assigned exclusively to the healthcare system and will be able to be used "for other budget expenditures."
The tax can be earned as early as 2027 — a year earlier than previously expected. The rate will depend on the sugar content. At 4.5−7 grams, it is proposed to charge 26 cents per liter, at 7-10 grams — 32 cents, and over 10 grams — 38 cents. Drinks with sweeteners, even if there is no sugar in them at all, also want to be taxed at a rate of 26 cents per liter. For example, a liter of regular Coca-Cola due to tax and VAT may rise in price from about 1.23 to 1.68 euros, and Coca-Cola Light — from 1.12 to 1.43 euros.
As EADaily reported, Germany is the absolute leader among the EU countries in terms of assistance to the Kiev regime. In 2026, more than 11.5 billion euros have been budgeted "to support Ukraine". Berlin plans to allocate funding in the coming years, in particular, about 11.6 billion euros are planned for 2027, and 8.5 billion euros annually for the period 2028-2030.
For all this time, Germany has sent more than 50 billion euros to help the Kiev regime (including the cost of housing refugees inside the country and military equipment).
