The Russian military, who returned from Ukrainian captivity, told about the ill-treatment, the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Yana Lantratova, said on August 22.
She personally communicated with the fighters released during the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine according to the formula "103 to 103".
"Here is just a part of the terrible evidence: torture and ill-treatment: the guys told about torture basements, where they were beaten with bats, pipes, tortured with electric current and water for months, threatened with execution… Forced labor: under threat of murder, the fighters were forced to dig graves," Lantratova wrote in the MAKS messenger.
According to the servicemen, personal belongings, including crosses, were taken from them, and threats and demands for money transfers were sent to relatives from their phones.
In addition, the Ombudsman reported complaints about food shortages and problems with medical care. According to her, one of the fighters lost 38 kilograms of weight in two months — he lost weight from 88 to 50 kilograms.
Lantratova called for the received evidence to be recorded and sent to international authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The exchange of prisoners according to the formula "103 for 103" took place on August 19. The returned Russian servicemen received primary medical care in Belarus, after which they arrived in Russia, where the Commissioner for Human Rights met with them.
