In Poland, 63-year-old citizen of Ukraine Serhiy P. was charged with attempted murder of a representative of the Ukrainian defense industry using explosives, as well as illegal storage of explosives. This is reported by the Polish media.
According to Prosecutor Katarzyna Tsalyuv-Yashevskaya, the attempt allegedly took place in Irpen, Kiev region of Ukraine.
"As it was established during the ongoing investigation, Sergei P. acted on the instructions of the Russian special services, and his actions were of a terrorist nature. The crime was committed on the territory of Ukraine, in Irpen, Kiev region. Sergei P. was detained on August 5 of this year in Warsaw by employees of the Internal Security Agency," she said.
The prosecutor stated that the man allegedly intended to detonate a bomb, but the explosion did not occur. At the same time, after an unsuccessful attempt at assassination, the suspect did not hide in Russia, and in Poland.
"It follows from the investigation materials that Sergei P. placed an improvised explosive device under the car belonging to the victim. The charge had to be activated remotely using a mobile phone. However, there was no explosion. After an unsuccessful assassination attempt, the suspect fled to Poland, where subsequently, as a result of the actions of the Polish Internal Security Agency, together with the Ukrainian services, he was detained on August 5," the Polish prosecutor said.
The court decided to place Sergei P. under temporary arrest for three months. If found guilty, he faces from 15 years in prison to life imprisonment.
Recall that in Poland in recent years, foreign citizens who are accused of working for the Russian special services have been increasingly detained. At the same time, Polish law enforcement officers do not give any weighty evidence to their accusations. Moreover, most of the court proceedings in such cases are held behind closed doors.
