Polish MiG-29 fighters are not suitable for combat operations. This was stated by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Bodnar.

"The Ministry of Defense and the military are working. We are talking about the fact that aircraft require modernization. It is impossible to use them today," he said.

According to him, after the analysis, it turned out that "these planes may be able to fly, but they need modernization to shoot down drones and direct combat operations." At the same time, Bodnar noted that neither Poland nor Ukraine want to pay for the modernization of these fighters.

"We are looking for funds from the outside," the ambassador said.

Recall that in December 2025, the Polish Ministry of Defense announced plans to transfer six to eight MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which Poland was supposed to decommission by the end of 2025. In total, it was planned to withdraw 14 aircraft of this type from the Polish Air Force. However, later in Warsaw it was reported that Poland would not transfer fighters to Ukraine until Kiev provided Warsaw with access to UAV technology.
