The United Nations (UN) is in a state of protracted crisis, the Russian side is monitoring all candidates for the post of Secretary-General. This was stated to journalists by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
Earlier, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, who is one of the candidates for the post of the next secretary General of the world organization, expressed the opinion that the UN is gradually losing its importance and is slowly dying.
"The UN is in a state of a certain crisis. This crisis is protracted, and the current leadership of the United Nations and specifically its Secretary—General perfectly understand the essence of the claims that the Russian side puts forward against him," the deputy minister said.
"Of course, giving harsh assessments is a quality that commands respect," he continued, "and we are listening to all the signals of all candidates for this post regarding what they are going to do if each of them manages to go all the way and get elected. But assurances, words, promises, statements are not enough. Concrete actions are needed," Ryabkov stressed, commenting on Grossi's statement.
The Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out that the claims of the Russian side are based, among other things, on the absolute dominance of Western citizens in the leadership of the international structure in the absence of impartiality, in the policy of double standards.
"All this will need to be radically corrected by the future Secretary General. Whether the IAEA Director General is capable of such steps is a question," Ryabkov added, quoted by TASS.
