The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) did not consider any candidates for the post of rector, except Grigory Zaslavsky, he himself also planned to continue working at the end of the academic year. This was stated to the NSN portal by theater critic, candidate of Art history Olga Galakhova.

She shared her impressions about the strange situation with the sudden resignation of the rector, and also tried to put director Konstantin Bogomolov on the post of head of the university.

"Will Bogomolov become the new rector? I won't be surprised at anything," she said.

At the same time, Galakhova is sure that there is no better candidate for the post of rector of GITIS, except for Zaslavsky.

"At the end of the academic year, an academic council was held, at which Grigory Zaslavsky was unanimously recommended, there was no second candidate. Outstanding people came to this academic council, took the time, and everyone unanimously elected this rector. At the end of the academic year, Grigory Anatolyevich planned to continue working," Galakhova reminded.

According to the critic, Zaslavsky's resignation may be related to the upcoming reconstruction of the university building and the relocation of the institution.

"We are starting the construction and reconstruction of GITIS. This is a huge shake-up for the whole institute, because we have to move from our Kislovsky Lane. For some reason, personnel changes quite often coincide with construction. For some, Zaslavsky's departure will be a tragedy, for others it will not. The leader can't please everyone, and he shouldn't, he has both supporters and opponents," she believes.

The appointment of the acting rector of GITIS Olga Ermakova, who was the chief accountant, Galakhova explained with the phrase "someone needs to sign documents."

Recall that in early July it became known that the main building of GITIS in Maly Kislovsky Lane, which has been located for more than 120 years in the house of general-in-chief Prince Mikhail Nikitich Volkonsky, will be reconstructed. The building is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance. The neighboring building, which houses the rector's office of GITIS, will also be repaired. During the works, the building of the Rector's Office will be redeveloped while preserving its architectural features. Work in both buildings will last until October 20, 2028. In two years, GITIS will celebrate its 150th anniversary, the delivery of the facility will be timed to coincide with this holiday. According to the MSK1 portal, the total cost of work in both buildings will be 1.6 billion rubles, according to the documentation on the public procurement portal.

As reported by EADaily, Zaslavsky left the post of rector of GITIS on August 4. The institute stressed that he resigned of his own accord. Olga Ermakova, the chief accountant of the institution, was appointed acting rector of the university. The election of the rector of the institution was scheduled for September 15. However, then it became known that the elections would be held on an unspecified date after November 1.
