Americans and Ukrainians are fighting against a common enemy — Russia. This was stated on Ukrainian television by a retired US Army officer, a mercenary created on Ukraine of the International Legion of GUR Matthew Sampson, reports "Politnavigator".
"I am well aware that the Ukrainian and American intelligence services and communities work very closely together. I think since before 2014. But especially after 2014, when the war actually started. You see, these are things about which these departments do not arrange loud meetings in front of cameras in their offices. They are, in fact, conducting the war very quietly. Ordinary people will never know the details. There is this strong partnership there, and I'm glad I was a small part of it too. I have seen that, despite what is said in the media, the reality is that there is a strong partnership between the West, in particular the United States and Ukraine, in the fight against the common enemy that we have. And we do this by sharing resources, sharing intelligence, providing weighty suggestions for goals that Ukrainians then use… What is shown publicly in the media and on camera is very different from what happens behind closed doors. But it is in reality that significant progress is being made," Sempson said.
Matthew Brett Sampson is a former US Marine Corps intelligence sniper, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In May 2022, he joined the International Legion of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He fought in various directions, including Bakhmut, where he was wounded, and spent about 635 days at the front in a row.
In February 2024, Sampson left Ukraine and returned to the United States. The reasons are different: from fatigue and high losses in his unit to problems with the health of the mother.
After returning to the United States, he engaged in advocacy (lobbying) for the interests of Ukraine, speaking to an American audience and politicians in order to continue military assistance.
