Technology company Anthropic was "kicked out" of The Pentagon is not in vain, said the head of the department, Pete Hegseth.
"Three months ago, the Ministry of War kicked AnthropicAI out of our building for good. Every passing day shows that this was the right step," the US Secretary of War wrote on the social network X.
In March, the Pentagon added Anthropic to the list of companies that pose risks to the supply chain in the United States. The conflict between the American authorities and Anthropic is connected with disagreements on the use of artificial intelligence in the military sphere. The company insists on compliance with the restrictions set out in the user rules, including a ban on the use of AI for mass surveillance of US citizens and in autonomous lethal weapon systems.
The Pentagon did not agree with these restrictions. Deputy Defense Minister Emil Michael accused the leadership of Anthropic of trying to impose its conditions on the military and jeopardize national security issues.
Later, US President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to be banned from using Anthropic's AI development, stating that external influence on the Pentagon's activities was unacceptable and calling the company's position an attempt to pressure the government.
Anthropic filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of War, challenging the inclusion in the list of companies associated with risks to national security, and demanding the cancellation of the corresponding status and its application by federal agencies.
Earlier this week, Anthropic released a statement that the US government had ordered it to restrict access to its most advanced models. AI Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign users who are not US citizens. The company reported that it had fulfilled the requirement and disabled access for this category of users.
Restrictions apply to foreigners both outside the United States and within the country, including foreign employees of Anthropic itself.
The company's statement notes that access to other models of Anthropic is maintained, and measures have been taken to comply with the government directive.
