Employees of the Consular Department of the Russian Embassy in A Russian woman, Maria Tayakina, who disappeared in 2024, was found in Mexico, helped her with food, and after two years of work, they obtained her consent to return home.
The head of the consular department of the diplomatic mission, Yakov Fedorov, told TASS that she would fly home on June 6.
"We took the issue to work in 2024, as soon as we received an appeal from the mother of a Russian woman about the disappearance of her daughter in the city of San Jose del Cabo (state of Southern Baja California). We went there in search of her and found her there with some difficulty. At that time, the girl no longer had a permanent home. They provided her with support, helped her with meals, informed her that her loved ones were looking for her, and offered assistance in returning to St. Petersburg, but then she refused," he said.
The diplomat noted that after that, the embassy was constantly in contact with Mexican law enforcement and migration authorities, public organizations and relatives. Almost two years later, with the unselfish help of Russian compatriots and Mexican citizens, Tayakina managed to be placed in a rehabilitation center, where she was given medical care, provided temporary housing and persuaded to agree to return to her mother and son.
On June 5, at the consular department in Mexico City, the Russian woman was handed all the prepared documents. She is due to arrive home on June 7.
