The "Hazel" strike in Ukraine in May was carried out for test purposes. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the heads of foreign news agencies as part of the SPIEF.
According to the Russian leader, Russia wanted to see the result of the attack, so "they hit where it was convenient."
"And the last thing in general, to be honest, I will tell you a big, big military state secret. Just hit where it was convenient. To see the results [for the future use of weapons]," Putin said, quoted by RBC.
It was "not a combat use," he stressed.
"In fact, we have not had a single combat, in the full sense of the word, use of Hazel on the territory of Ukraine," Putin added.
