The floating power plant, which Ukraine planned to install in the Odessa region, went into operation Mexico.
The Turkish Karpowership has announced a three-year project on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. There, the company deployed its 250 MW floating power plant next to the LNG terminal to ensure the supply of electricity.
"It is expected that the floating power plant and terminal vessel will arrive in Mexico in the coming weeks, and commercial operations will begin in coordination with state and federal authorities," writes LNG Industry.
According to the publication, the Yucatan Peninsula is one of the fastest growing economic regions of Mexico and, according to the National Program for the Development of Electrical Systems (PRODESEN) for 2024-2038, it is expected that the demand for electricity will grow by 3.8% per year.
"The Powership and Karpowership terminal vessel infrastructure will help ensure sustainability during periods of peak demand and other supply disruptions," LNG Industry writes.
The former head of the GTS Operator of Ukraine, Serhiy Makogon, writes in the telegram channel that the Turkish vessel was planned to be used for Ukraine.
"The former deputy head of the Office of the President Shurma promoted the idea of attracting the Karpowership floating power plant to the port of Odessa. Hundreds of millions of hryvnias have been spent for this project on the construction of power lines to the port, gas pipelines have been laid to connect the vessel, and the port infrastructure has been prepared. Why didn't the ship arrive? It was obvious to everyone except Shurma, Russia would have destroyed him instantly. The port of Odessa was and is in the range of Russian missiles. To bring a civilian power plant vessel worth hundreds of millions of dollars there would mean giving it under attack," writes Sergey Makogon.
"The ship did not come. The money is spent. The infrastructure was built in vain," the former head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator added.
