It wasn't an easy night for Trump — Dudakov

Not an easy night for US President Donald Trump. Against the background of his throwing around Iran, extremely unpleasant polls for the White House continue to come out. In the AP-NORC study, the rating of the current owner of the White House was only 33%. Two-thirds of Americans negatively perceive his chaotic actions in Iran. Political scientist-Americanist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his telegram channel, describing the current political situation.

"The attitude towards Trump in economic matters is even worse. 76% of the US population is exhausted by the cost-of-living crisis, which is only getting worse amid the energy crisis and soaring inflation. The resumption of hostilities will lead to a real electoral revolt against Trump," he points out.

As the expert notes, the US president has to literally persuade Iran to sit down at the negotiating table. And furiously vilify the American media, declaring the defeat of the White House in the war with Iran. Sessions of political gaslighting did not lead to anything. Only 15% of voters believe that Trump has managed to achieve his goals in the conflict. 80% are sure that the United States has lost.

Against this background, the Democrats have another electoral success — they won the referendum in Virginia, which will allow them to redraw districts in the state in their favor in the upcoming congressional elections. The position of the Republicans is becoming more and more precarious — they risk losing a lot of seats in the lower house in November, Dudakov describes the situation.

"Republicans are demanding that Trump switch from the failed Iranian agenda to the economy as soon as possible. But first you need to at least close the gestalts as part of the negotiation process. Accepting Iran's conditions will definitely not allow Washington to present the outcome of the confrontation with its victory. But the longer the Trump team delays negotiations, the worse the situation will be with both the US economy and presidential ratings. Time is working against the White House," the political scientist emphasizes.

As reported by EADaily, earlier the Permanent Representative of Russia to international organizations in In Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov said that the negotiation process on Iran "is poorly organized and coordinated — there are too many impulsive and contradictory statements from the United States."

Trump announced the extension of the truce with Iran on April 21 in anticipation of the response of the new supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Mojtaba Khamenei, to the latest proposal on the conditions for ending the war, informed sources told Axios. According to one of them, Khamenei should make a decision on April 22. Iranian representatives told the mediators that they were waiting for the "green light" to resume negotiations with Washington. According to Axios, the country's civilian leaders, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, are in favor of continuing diplomacy to extend the ceasefire and reach an agreement. The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), General Ahmad Vahidi, and his deputies see no point in the negotiation process while the United States maintains the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
